“When I saw that, I fell off my chair!”

Given the current context, one would think that prices are increasing at all levels in our supermarkets. However, Delhaize has decided to strike hard as the end of year celebrations approach, by offering bottles of champagne for less than ten euros.

Wine expert Alain Bloeykens explains to our colleagues from “Het Laatste Nieuws” that already in 2009, some supermarkets had fallen below the symbolic bar of ten euros, but this had not been done since. “It was unprecedented at the time! Prices are climbing everywhere and even in France, I don’t see a bottle below ten euros. It’s a real bomb”, Bloeykens is surprised.

Can we expect a reaction from the supermarket’s competitors? Hard to believe, given that the price of champagne has gone up everywhere this year. “I’m really shocked that they can slash their prices like this. When I saw that, I fell off my chair, ”says the expert.

On the side of the spokesperson for the store, Roel Dekelver, we explain: “How do we arrive at this price? This is a limited volume, which allows us to keep the price low. Customers need to understand this: we get this equally competitive price because we won’t be selling an infinite number. »
