“When I heard about it, I didn’t hesitate for a second”

This is the case of Frans and Miriam, who, since they have this type of contract, receive money from Engie every month. “When I heard regarding the digital counter, I didn’t hesitate for a second”, says Frans, questioned by the Newspaper.

“Engie is the first energy supplier to launch a dynamic electricity contract whose price varies from hour to hour. Behind this offer, there is the idea of directing electricity consumption towards times when prices are low. This is mainly aimed at large consumers equipped with digital meters which are more widely deployed in Flanders. But the arrival in Brussels and Wallonia of this type of contract is only a matter of time”, indicates Test-Purchase.

“You can even make money”

“There will be software between the solar panels and the inverter. It monitors the electricity price every 15 minutes. When it is low, the software gives the order to fill the house battery. When everyone needs electricity that day, at so-called peak hours, the price of electricity rises sharply. This is when the software puts the stored electricity from the home battery onto the grid. The difference between the purchase and sale price means that the energy bill drops drastically, you can even earn money”, informs the couple.

To benefit from this type of contract, however, it is necessary to invest a little money, around 10,000 euros: “You need a digital meter, solar panels, a battery and a suitable inverter” , informs the couple.
