“When I hear the far left giving up in the face of this horror, well you’re forcing me to say what I didn’t want to say, we have to kill these people,” the 84-year-old singer declared on Tuesday .
The parliamentary group La France insoumise announced on Wednesday that it would take legal action following the comments the day before by singer Enrico Macias calling for “destroying”, “perhaps even physically”, the radical left movement because of its position on Hamas.
These comments constitute “a call to physically attack the members of La France insoumise”, assures the president of the group Mathilde Panot in her letter addressed to the Paris prosecutor.
LFI contacted the latter under article 40 of the code of criminal procedure, which allows “any constituted authority, any public officer or civil servant” to report facts or comments to the courts.
“When I hear the far left giving up in the face of this horror, well you force me to say what I didn’t want to say: we have to kill these people,” Enrico Macias declared Tuesday evening on CNews , on the set of Pascal Praud.
“Politically,” the host clarified. “Well of course, but maybe physically,” adds the 84-year-old singer, later specifying that he is talking regarding members of LFI, in his eyes “accomplices” of Hamas. “Defamation” for Mathilde Panot.
“Call for murder”
The head of the LFI deputies also announces that she will take legal action regarding Julien Bahloul, who presents himself “as an expert, a former Franco-Israeli journalist”. The latter declared on X: “I wish Madame Panot to find herself in the hands of Hamas for 24 hours.”
These declarations “come in a climate of constant threats once morest La France insoumise and its members: numerous death threats have been received by the members of our parliamentary group, sometimes anonymously, via letters, emails, and social networks”, writes Mathilde Panot.
“By repeating lies from morning to evening on LFI, people we love end up believing them and calling for murder. I do not recognize Enrico Macias in this remark,” Jean-Luc Mélenchon reacted Tuesday evening on X .
The leader of the Insoumis had already denounced during the week the “now permanent media stoning” which, in his eyes, his movement is undergoing, caught in the controversy following its reaction to the Hamas attack in Israel.
