Then, meters from the finish, I fell, and the injury turned out to be more serious than initially thought. It required surgery to reattach a damaged oblique muscle to my pelvic bone.
**Archyde:** That must have been incredibly discouraging. How challenging has the recovery process been?
**Mikaela Shiffrin:** It’s definitely been a roller coaster. There were initial hopes for a quick recovery, but complications arose, making it a much longer and tougher journey.
**Archyde:** You recently spoke to Gear Junkie about still experiencing discomfort. Can you elaborate?
**Mikaela Shiffrin:** Sure. Simple actions like laughing or coughing can still be quite painful.I sometimes need to use a small dose of lidocaine for those moments. But I’m very grateful. Things could have been much worse.
**Archyde:** Despite the challenges, you’re determined to return.What’s driving you, what fuels that fire to get back on the slopes?
**Mikaela Shiffrin:** My love for the sport transcends everything. Skiing is in my blood. I wont to feel that rush again, to compete at the highest level.And, of course, that 100th win still beckons.
**Archyde:** What does your training regimen look like now?
**Mikaela Shiffrin:** It’s a gradual process.Right now, it’s a lot of physical therapy, strengthening exercises, and slowly rebuilding my conditioning.
**Archyde:** Any tentative timeline for your return to competition?
**Mikaela Shiffrin:** Honestly, that’s still uncertain. It depends on how my body responds,but I’m optimistic. I’m taking it day by day, focusing on regaining my strength and mobility.
