Tottenham caused a stir last weekend by beating Manchester City at home 2-3 with a late goal from Harry Kane. After the match, Pep Guardiola felt that his team had nothing to be ashamed of: “I think we played well. We created a lot of chances. I can’t criticize my team, it was just a tough game”he started before specifying that the game of Tottenham made it difficult for them. “They played as I expected. They were good in building and created space to start on the counter, but overall we got through it well and played well.”
A little phrase that did not escape Tottenham coach Antonio Conte. In response to Guardiola, the Italian posted a video of his team’s three goals on Instagram with the following message; “Counter-attacks? Maybe not”he wrote with several emojis showing that he found the words of the Spanish coach ridiculous.
Indeed, the three goals scored by Tottenham were following a Spurs possession streak and not really by counter-attacks as Guardiola had claimed.
After the encounter, Conte had also already claimed that his plan was to attack: “I said before the game that Manchester City would have possession for 65 to 70 minutes and that we had to be very solid defensively. But our primary idea was to go forward,” explained the former Italy coach.
