Soon, it will no longer be necessary to share your phone number for someone to add you as a contact on WhatsApp — at least that’s what the latest messenger leaks indicate, which may be very close to implementing a new one username system (usernames) much like those on other social networks.
This novelty, still under development, was noticed by the staff WABetaInfo in the latest beta of WhatsApp for Android devices (2.23.11.15) and can be found in the application settings. As you can see in the image below, the messenger asks the person to choose a unique username that can be used to identify him within the platform.
Although it was found in the beta version of WhatsApp, the novelty is not available to users registered in the messenger’s testing program, nor can it be viewed normally. Once released, however, it is expected to increase privacy on the platform.
As the feature is still in development, it is not yet known when it will be released (in one go or in a granular way) and even who will have priority when choosing your username. For now, the only thing the WABetaInfo was able to confirm is that the conversations initiated through the usernames will also feature end-to-end encryption.
Translucent bottom bar
Another novelty under development by WhatsApp is a new translucent bottom bar for the app on iOS. As you can see below, the section where the Status, Calls, Communities, Conversations and Settings tabs can be found appears with a transparent effect.
Also noticed by WABetaInfothis novelty was discovered in version 23.10.0.76 of the messenger on TestFlight and, as it is still under development, it cannot be noticed even if the user installs the latest version of the app on his iPhone.
According to the information, the forecast is that this new look will even be released in some future version of WhatsApp to make your app more modern and in line with the current iOS interface. Still no date for that to happen, however.
