This is not the first time nor the last that WhatsApp has made this announcement: the app will stop working on some phones.
Like many, the social network must keep pace with new smartphones and the updates that go with them. This progress means that some devices eventually become obsolete and stop being updated. But, without this update, it is impossible for the app to survive on your phone.
That’s why WhatsApp has announced that, starting this Wednesday, the app will no longer be available for all devices running versions earlier than Android 4.1 and iOS 12.
“To keep pace with the latest technological advancements, we regularly stop supporting older operating systems to devote our resources to supporting the latest systems”explains the app in the Frequently Asked Questions section of its site.
“Every year, like other technology companies, we identify the oldest devices and software, and those with the fewest users”continues WhatsApp to justify this continuous sorting.
You will therefore have to do without the application or buy a new device with more recent versions of Android and iOS if you are concerned.
