WhatsApp plans to drop support for iOS 10 and iOS 11 on October 24, 2022, according to WABetaInfo. This means that if you are on a lower version of the system, you will have to update your iPhone to continue using WhatsApp normally. But if your phone is not compatible with a higher version of iOS, then in the near future you will be left without access to the app.

WhatsApp is the most popular messaging service in the world and as such leaves millions of people running in circles every time it withdraws support from an operating system. However, it has been warning its users for months that it is going to happen, with requests to update the system:

Please update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp. The app will stop supporting this version of iOS following October 24, 2022.”

The iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6S, for example, can update to iOS 12, the oldest version supported by WhatsApp. In contrast, the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C, released in 2012 and 2013, respectively, do not go beyond iOS 10.

What does this mean? That iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C users have run out of WhatsApp updates and, soon, no app access, until they renew their phone. This occurs due to an internal decision by WhatsApp, which needs to continue implementing functions in the app and to do so releases the ballast of devices and software versions that are too old.

If you have an iPhone 5 or 5C, you can continue using WhatsApp without updates until October 24, but if you need to continue using the app, you will have to renew your phone. I also tell you: few phones last 10 years, congratulations.
