WhatsApp will soon no longer work on these 35 smartphones

This year, at least 35 smartphones will lose access to WhatsApp and its new features.

WhatsApp (Meta) has announced that it will end support for 35 smartphones during the year 2024. These smartphones run on either iOS or Android and are from the following brands: Samsung, Motorola, Apple, Huawei, Lenovo, Sony, or LG.

The end of support does not mean that WhatsApp will immediately stop working on these smartphones. However, it does present two major problems. On the one hand, the WhatsApp application on these smartphones will no longer receive security patches and updates. This leaves users vulnerable to hacking. Eventually, the application will simply cease to function.

On the other hand, the WhatsApp application on these smartphones will be unable to download new features. Users will be stuck with an older version of the application.

Meta recommends that WhatsApp users use the app on smartphones running Android 5.0 or iOS 12 or later.

  WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has announced that it will end support for 35 smartphones throughout 2024. This includes devices running iOS or Android from brands such as Samsung, Motorola, Apple, Huawei, Lenovo, Sony, and LG.

  While the end of support doesn’t immediately mean WhatsApp will stop working on these devices, it presents two key challenges for users:

  • No Updates or Patches: The WhatsApp app on unsupported smartphones will no longer receive security updates and patches, increasing the risk of hacking and security vulnerabilities.
  • New Feature Limitation: Users will be unable to download new features, leaving them stuck with an outdated version of the app.

  Eventually, the application on these devices will also cease functionality altogether. Meta recommends WhatsApp users utilize the app on smartphones running Android 5.0 or later or iOS 12 or later.
