The messaging application might soon integrate 3D avatars.
WhatsApp is regarding to introduce a major new feature, according to a report by WABetainfoa site that specializes in analyzing changes to software source code.
In the latest version of the software, the site discovered a relatively unexpected novelty, partially inspired by Snapchat’s Bitmojis. In the near future, WhatsApp should offer its users the possibility of creating a virtual avatar in their image. The originality here would come from the fact that it would be possible to use these 3D avatars instead of your own face during video calls. A playful feature therefore, which might especially appeal to a younger audience.
As WABetainfo reports, development is already well advanced. No images of 3D avatars leaked, but several screenshots of the interface show a button to switch to an avatar during video calls.
To create this Avatar, the user will have access to a new in-app avatar editing tool.
The feature has been in development since March. It should logically soon be tested with a sample of users. WhatsApp is used to testing new features with small groups of users before rolling them out to all smartphones.
