A new form of message is regarding to land on WhatsApp. The beta versions for Android and iOS now include the ability to make short video messages.

Video messages will soon be here on WhatsApp. The novelty has just landed on the beta versions of iOS and Android and, as often, it is WABetaInfo who realized it. WhatsApp continues its update project and decides to bet on a new form of communication, even if it means taking some risks. It remains to be seen whether the audacity of the messaging service will be rewarded.

60 seconds to say it all

Specifically, the feature should allow users to record and share short videos. The maximum duration of the messages cannot therefore exceed 60 seconds. To activate the recording, it will be necessary to select the camera icon. A priori, WhatsApp intends to facilitate the transition between audio and video messages by letting the user switch from one to the other with a simple press.

When the camera icon is displayed, you just need to keep the pressure on to start recording the message. On the other side, the recipient can activate the reading of the message by tapping on it once. Of course, the function will require being able to install the latest version of WhatsApp, including to read messages.

As with all other forms of communication, video messages will benefit from end-to-end encryption. No question for WhatsApp to make concessions on confidentiality, which is not displeasing to us. However, it seems difficult to us to identify the real interest of this novelty.

Certainly, video messages add a touch of authenticity and can be a useful addition to certain conversations. Especially when it comes to showing something. However, the messaging service already allows you to share photos or record videos directly from the application. This greatly limits its usefulness.
