WhatsApp tests quick reactions with double-tap in conversations

O WhatsApp started testing the possibility of quickly reacting to a message just by double-tapping its speech bubble. This news was noticed by the staff WABetaInfo on the latest messenger beta version (23.10.0.73) on TestFlight.

Currently, to react to a message on WhatsApp, the user needs to tap and hold it for a few seconds to open a contextual menu, where it is possible to choose any emoji to react. With the novelty, whenever the user double-taps the message, the messenger sends the thumbs up emoji (????) as a default reaction, eliminating the need to follow extra steps.

According to WABetaInfo, at the moment, there is no option to change the default emoji for these quick reactions, which forces the user to access the contextual menu if he wants to choose a different emoji. This change, however, should make life easier for those who just want to mark a message as “seen”, for example.

Still in development, it is expected that this novelty will even be released in some future version of WhatsApp (still no release date). Although it is included in the latest iOS messenger beta, it is not yet accessible to users enrolled in its testing program.
