WhatsApp tests Privacy Check on iOS

O WhatsApp is testing a new feature in beta version number 23.9.0.73 (for iOS). The novelty consists of a Privacy Checkupwhich basically directs users to specific settings that are important to ensure safe use of the app and communication with others.

In the beta version, testers with access to the feature are receiving an alert in the “Privacy” area, located in the “Settings” menu of the messenger. When you select the option to start the checkup, four areas are displayed: “Choose who can contact you”, “Control your personal information”, “Add more privacy to your conversations” and “Add more protection to your account”.

In this way, you have an overview of how to make the use of the app safer. You can choose who can add you to groups and manage blocked contacts, as well as adjust who can see your personal information — such as your profile picture and last seen. In addition, you can configure temporary messaging option and end-to-end encrypted backup.

It is worth remembering that all of these options have existed for some time in WhatsApp, so the Privacy Checkup is just a way to draw attention to the possibilities of making your account more secure. Therefore, it might be interesting for the alert to appear on the messenger’s conversation screen, which is undoubtedly the most accessed by users, in order to reach more people who may not be aware of these privacy issues.

The resource is in the testing phase and can only be accessed by users enrolled in the messenger beta. In the future, however, the function may be integrated into the public version of WhatsApp, as was the case, for example, with the option to save temporary messages, launched at the end of last month.
