WhatsApp tests Communities in the chats tab, autoplay GIFs and more

The most popular messenger in the world is definitely not left behind when it comes to testing new features. Although relatively “delayed” in the implementation of some features in relation to other rival services, the WhatsApp does not stop working on new features that can improve your user experience.

In this sense, the messenger has been working on news and changes that are already available for users of its beta version — some of them in the app to iOS and others for macOS — which we will see in detail below.

Communities in chats tab

WhatsApp is testing a new toolbar at the top of the conversations list, through which it will be possible to see and access all the Communities you participate in, so that all your groups that belong to a Community will be filtered in the chats list when a Community is selected in this new bar.

According to WABetaInfoa blue badge will appear over the Community icon when you receive a message from a particular group linked to it.

GIF autoplay

O WABetaInfo also released a novelty regarding the way GIFs are played in the messenger. Currently, users need to tap on a GIF to start its animation But, in the new beta, WhatsApp is testing the possibility of this playback starting automatically when GIFs appear in the conversation.

Autoplay GIFs on WhatsApp

It’s worth noting that the autoplay feature is only available the first time the GIF appears in the conversation, so following the initial play, you’ll have to tap on it to play it once more.

channel list

WhatsApp is also testing a new list of channels, which may be implemented in the Status screen — which will now be called “Updates” (Updates), also according to information from the WABetaInfo.

With the new list, WhatsApp will allow users to have full control over which channels they follow. Additionally, channels will support identifiers, allowing users to easily search and access preferred updates.

App interface for macOS

A little less than a month ago, we mentioned that WhatsApp was testing replacing the list of links in its macOS app’s sidebar with a column of icons. More recently, however, the WABetaInfo noticed another, smaller, change in the look of the app: some interface elements, like buttons, changed to a tint verde.

As we said, the change is punctual, but it indicates that the messenger continues to test improvements in its native app for macOS.

It is important to note that all of the above features are currently in testing and may not be available to all users of the beta version, so the release will occur to even more people in subsequent versions.

For users in general, there is no prediction of when the news will be available.
