WhatsApp payments start to be released for companies

In 2021, the resource arrived in Brazil Payments on WhatsApp, allowing the transfer of amounts to other people using the debit (or prepaid) card. The novelty was even suspended by the Central Bank, but ended up being released and even gained compatibility with cards from more banks over time.

Today the Meta announced that it is also releasing the payment function for companies in our country. According to the company, some small businesses already have access to the resource, which allows companies to receive payments from customers through systems such as Cielo, Mercado Pago or Rede — which must be connected to WhatsApp.

To use the service, you must have a Visa or Mastercard card. The news, however, is that you can use not only debit or prepaid cards, but also credit to make payments to companies, as previously reported. All it takes is one order to be created to carry out the transaction, as shown in the images below.

With this, WhatsApp seeks to solidify itself as a kind of marketplace where you can shop without leaving the application. More than intermediating the payment, it is also possible to search for stores, products and/or services in the messenger, in addition to making a purchase and paying through the app itself.

Also according to the company, the new feature is being released to some companies, while “many others” will have access to the novelty “in the coming months”.

This seamless and secure checkout experience will change the lives of people and small businesses looking to buy and sell on WhatsApp without having to go to a website, open another app or pay in person.

The issue of privacy was also mentioned, in the sense that “payments are made to be secure”. Card numbers are encrypted as well as stored securely, requiring a PIN registration to make payments and with support available to users.
