WhatsApp launches a function to send text messages that can only be seen once – Enseñame de Ciencia

WhatsApp will allow you to send text messages that automatically disappear once they are read.

We recently reported that WhatsApp is adding a cover sheet that will inform you of the new privacy updates, we have for example that you can no longer take screenshots, copy, share or save images and videos for single viewing. But that’s not all, WhatsApp will now implement the possibility of not only sending images and videos that can be viewed only once, but also text messages!

According to the specialized medium WABetaInfoWhatsApp is working to include the ability to send see-once text messages in a future update. Similar to the screenshot below, there is a new special button next to the chat bar. If you look closely at the send button, you will see that there is a padlock inside the button, it means you will be able to send a single view text message.

What exactly is a single view text message?

The way to imagine these messages is simple, as it will disappear from the conversation when the recipient opens it, or marks it as read. It means that so it will not be possible to re-read the text that was sent as a display-only message. In the screenshot above we saw what the feature might look like, but the layout of the button may change slightly as it is still under development.

These types of messages will be very useful for users who want to share important or secret information. Maybe you have felt the need to send a message that you want to disappear when the recipient has read it, then this function is just for that, since it will be deleted automatically.

WABetaInfo It says that just like single-view images and videos, you can’t forward or copy messages to this type of text message. As for screenshots, they should also be blocked, although this is a more tedious feature, with more details to consider, so it remains to be confirmed when the update is finally released.

It is important to mention that view-only text messages, or text messages that can be viewed only once, will be released in a future WhatsApp beta update for Android. When the update is released we will publish an article in our technology section explaining how you can use this new feature.

The new spreadsheet we mentioned at the beginning has been released to some beta testers and is rolling out to more users in the coming days. View-only text messages will still go through a testing phase.
