O WhatsApp is launching a new feature that makes it easier and simpler sending photos and videos as documents — this way, it is possible to preserve the original quality of the files, sending them without compression.
The feature was detected in the latest beta version of the messenger, but people at WABetaInfo checked that it is also being released to some people in the latest stable version of WhatsApp for iOS.
The new option to select photos and videos directly from the Photos app (Photos) and sending them as documents can be accessed by tapping the “+” icon next to the message composer and selecting the “Document” option. The files, it is worth noting, cannot exceed 2GB.
This feature represents a significant improvement for media sharing, especially on iOS — since the process for sharing photos or videos as documents previously only involved the Files app (Files), which is not intuitive for many users; Even so, the option to send documents using this app was maintained.
As stated, the new feature is available to a limited number of people in the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS (as well as the beta) and will be expanded in the coming weeks.
