O WhatsApp reached version 23.14.79 today on iOSwhich, in addition to formalizing the launch of features already announced, such as the possibility of silencing unknown calls and transferring conversations via QR code, also implemented an unprecedented change: the option to make horizontal video calls.
Ideal for calls where more than one person is sharing the same smartphone, this orientation can be accessed simply by placing the device in landscape mode.
As you can see above, as soon as the user turns the device, all interface icons are rotated to follow the view. The person on the other end of the call also automatically sees you horizontally.
Interestingly, the rest of the iOS interface doesn’t seem to follow the new orientation, so to get back to the Home screen, for example, the user has to swipe from the side of the iPhone to the center of the screen instead of from bottom to top. The same behavior applies to Control Center and Notification Center — which, in this case, would be top to bottom.
In our tests, the feature was not yet available in the Android version of WhatsApp, although it was possible to view the other contact horizontally normally during the call.
Small but welcome news, no? ????
