WhatsApp is currently testing new features in its beta version. One of the next novelties that will arrive at the app messaging from Meta —as described by the portal Wabetainfo— is the playback of voice notes in the background within the application itself.

This new feature is still under development. It is a “global” player that allows you to listen to audio outside of the original conversation. Tests are being done to Android, which is the operating system where it would be launched first.
Currently, WhatsApp allows the playback of a voice note only outside the app. That is, the user can play a voice message and go to their home screen on their phone, access other apps and it will continue to be heard.
However, when the user goes to another conversation within WhatsApp, the audio stops automatically. This is what the app hopes to change to improve the user experience.
This new function —which has been baptized as “global voice memo player”-, it has been thought to continue playing the voice message even if it enters another WhatsApp conversation. The app will activate a player that will be anchored at the top of the screen.

The player will display the sender’s name, their profile picture, and a control bar to pause or dismiss the voice message. Possibly this player will be activated automatically, following leaving the chat.
