WhatsApp officially announces its recent function “Canales” for Peru, Chile and other countries in a new wave of updates.

Without a doubt, WhatsApp It has had a year full of implementations that fit the habit of millions of users globally, but it does not stop its pace in that process. A few weeks ago nothing more, we talked regarding the arrival of his “Channels” function to a first group of countries in the testing phase, and now it is time for Peru to receive this new tool, before several countries in the region.

RPP News spoke with Paloma Szerman, WhatsApp Public Policy Manager for Latin Americaand confirmed that our country is part of a new phase of deployment, together with Chile and other nations, following the initial steps of Colombia and Singapore.

“We are very happy to announce that WhatsApp channels are available in Peru and Chile starting today, July 24. The way in which this test is going to work is very similar to what I just mentioned: today we are announcing this second phase of testing and as part of this second phase, Meta is working with allied organizations, media, non-profit organizations and public organizations to announce the arrival of the channels in these countries.” said the executive in an interview with NIUSGEEK

WhatsApp channels and data without leaving the app

It is evident that, unlike other communication applications, the global popularity of WhatsApp strongly supports any initiative of the Matriz Meta company, including this new style of one-way connectivity that brings content creators and media – such as RPP, by the way – closer to this level of interaction with international audiences. With this new proposal, the brand founded by Mark Zuckerberg tries to reduce the path of users to the information that interests them.

“Any WhatsApp user with a phone number from these countries will be able to choose to follow the channels they want to follow. Two weeks later, that is, on August 7, any user with a WhatsApp number also from these countries who joined this second phase will be able to create their own channels. Our idea is that then in a third phase in the coming months, we will gradually make the tool available to the rest of the world”, Szermann adds.

Note that there is a new aspect in this: unidirectionality. Just like the Instagram channels, a function that has already been in the global market for a few months, the WhatsApp channels will allow user interaction that aims not to reduce the level of privacy.

“This is the goal of WhatsApp channels. What are WhatsApp channels? A one-way communication mode for WhatsApp users to find updates on important information that matters to them. Some like sports, others technology. We are used to using WhatsApp in a directional way”, Szermann mentions. “There was a change of strategy. What we’ve basically been hearing from organizations like media outlets, influencers, and creators is, ‘What can be the best way for these types of organizations to send and share important information updates on WhatsApp, which is the most widely used private messaging platform in the world?’ And we are convinced that we are the private messaging application”.
