What’s next in the Alfonso Obregón case? ‘Shrek’ actor given preventive detention – El Financiero

Alfonso Obregón, a Mexican actor and dubbing director known for providing the voice of Shrek, will have to remain in prison as a precautionary measure, because he was identified as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of sexual abuse.

The famous actor, who also played Marty in the Madagascar saga, was arrested on August 10 in the Venustiano Carranza municipality (CDMX) by elements of the Investigative Police.

What is actor Alfonso Obregón accused of?

The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City reported in a statement published on August 12 that Alfonso Obregón is accused of a case of sexual abuse in February 2022, which allegedly occurred inside a property located in the Cuauhtémoc municipality (CDMX).

The actor spoke about this in an interview on the occasion of the premiere of Pollitos en fuga: el origen de los nuggets, in which he admitted being accused of sexual assault by the Gender and Violence-Free Spaces Commission of the National Association of Actors (ANDA).

The 64-year-old voice actor explained that he is accused of allegedly inappropriately touching one of his students during one of the classes he was teaching.

Alfonso Obregón said that on one occasion he told one of his students to “clench your ass,” which led to him being accused of sexual abuse. In that conversation he also denied having touched the student in question.

Despite his statements, a young woman who approached the actor with the aim of working with him shared on social media that on one occasion Obregón asked her for a full-body photograph, which she found strange.

How long would the ‘Shrek’ actor be in prison?

After the initial hearing of the voice actor was held, the Public Prosecutor of the General Coordination of Investigation of Gender Crimes detailed in the statement that the decision was made to charge Obregón Inclán with the crime of aggravated sexual abuse.

However, the legal defense of the voice of Lumpy Princess in Adventure Time asked the judicial authority to duplicate the constitutional term, that is, an extension of time to gather information that would allow the actor’s alleged innocence to be proven.

Mexico City authorities granted the request; however, they determined that Alfonso Obregón must remain in the Northern Men’s Preventive Prison as a precautionary measure, until the next hearing is held.

The Attorney General’s Office of the capital indicated that “according to the investigations of the Public Ministry, the individual possibly carried out acts classified as sexual abuse on the victim.”

If found guilty, he could spend one to six years in prison, according to Article 176 of the Mexico City Penal Code, which states that if sexual abuse was committed with “physical or moral violence, the sentence provided for will be increased by half.”
