Microsoft announced a significant update for Windows 11 in March, bringing a series of improvements and new features, from the update for better cell phone integration with Windows, to improvements in Copilot. I list below what was new and what was improved.
What’s new in the Windows 11 March Update
Windows 11 Mobile Devices
Microsoft has renamed the “Phone link” settings page to “Mobile Devices”, simplifying the connection and management of Android devices on Windows 11. This new feature was announced by me on March 4th, it is a long-awaited update.
Cutting tool
You can now use the Snipping Tool to edit the latest photos and screenshots from your Android device directly on your PC, making image editing and sharing easier.
Support for USB4 and Thunderbolt
The update introduces support for the new generation of USB4, doubling the maximum connection speed to 80 Gbps. This is great news for users with USB4 or Thunderbolt peripherals, as it promises faster, more efficient data transfers.
Other improvements
- The update aims to improve automatic switching between cellular and Wi-Fi connections, seeking to offer a more stable and reliable connection experience.
- Standby mode: Improvements have been made to the PC’s behavior when in standby mode, especially when external devices are connected, aiming for more efficient power management.
- Game storage: Microsoft has worked on optimizing secondary storage for games, looking to improve the performance and loading of games stored on secondary drives.
- Copilot no Windows: Introduced in preview, Copilot on Windows is a tool that helps you find information, inspiration, and take action using artificial intelligence. It allows for greater creativity and collaboration, helping to concentrate on tasks.
- How to access: To try Copilot on Windows when it’s available, go to “Settings”, “Update & Security”, “Windows Update”, turn on “Get the latest updates as they become available” and click “Check for updates”.
Update dates: important
- Microsoft also updated the end dates for non-security updates for Windows 11, version 22H2.
- For Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise multi-session editions, the new end date is June 24, 2025.
- Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations editions will receive non-secure preview updates until June 26, 2024.
- After these dates, only monthly cumulative security updates will continue for supported editions.
How to Update Windows 11?
