A third of those surveyed say they only wash their bath mat twice a year

In a survey by British sanitary specialist Big Bathroom Shop, a third of respondents said they only wash their bath mat twice a year. This is far too little, considering that specialists recommend washing a bath mat every week or fortnight. Indeed, the risk of proliferation of bacteria or the development of mold is particularly high in a bathroom due to the high humidity level there.

But where do all these bacteria on your bath mat come from? If you usually walk on them with clean feet, you also do it before going to the shower or bath, with dirty feet or socks. Furthermore, every time you flush the toilet without closing the toilet lid, water droplets and bacteria spread throughout the bathroom. The latter feel particularly comfortable on a damp bath mat, where they can proliferate as they please.

Prevent Moisture Under Carpet

To keep your bath mat clean, there are different solutions which also depend on the material of the mat. A protector to slide under the carpet will not only prevent the carpet from slipping, but will also prevent excessive moisture accumulation under the carpet. This can also be avoided by drying the mat following showering or bathing.
