Following information circulated in recent days, which confirmed that Qatar is reviewing its role as mediator between Hamas and Israel, with the possibility of closing the movement’s political headquarters in Doha, the Houthi rebels from Yemen have entered the field. The leader of the Yemeni group’s political office, Muhammad Al-Bukhaiti, offered to host Hamas leaders in Sanaa. The Yemeni Shiite leader wrote in a tweet on his account on platform X, “Sanaa is honored to host the political headquarters of the Hamas movement, whatever the consequences.” Al-Bakhiti added defiantly: “Even if the sky closes on the earth.”
This offer came following an official familiar with an assessment conducted by the Qatari government revealed that it may close Hamas’s political office as part of a broader review of its mediation role in the Gaza war. The official said yesterday that Doha is considering whether to allow Hamas to continue running its political office, adding that the broader review includes assessing whether Qatar will continue to mediate in the conflict that has been ongoing for nearly seven months. The announcement also came following the news of the possibility of moving the movement’s headquarters to Ankara, but Hamas sources denied the issue, underlining that there was no pressure from Qatar to leave.
