In the lengthy court drama surrounding the allegations of domestic violence once morest LASK newcomer Jerome Boateng (35), a verdict is to be handed down tomorrow at the Munich I Regional Court. What you need to know before the finale in the Boateng trial:
What is Boateng accused of?
Boateng’s ex-girlfriend Sherin S. (34), mother of their twin daughters born in 2011, accuses him of attacking her on a Caribbean vacation in 2018. He threw things at her, hit her and threatened her. The footballer has always denied the allegations and said he was merely defending himself once morest an attack by his then partner.
What punishment might Boateng receive?
The public prosecutor demanded a fine of 1.12 million euros (160 daily rates of 7,000 euros each). The defense argued for a moderate punishment or for the case to be dropped in return for a fine.
Why has the case been heard for the third time?
Boateng has already been convicted in two instances. However, the Bavarian Supreme Court overturned the verdict due to consistent legal errors, so the case was retried.
How does LASK react?
Despite the ongoing proceedings, LASK managing director Siegmund Gruber recently backed his new signing in an OÖN interview: “As long as the court (…) does not impose a penalty that prevents Mr. Boateng from practicing his profession, he will play football with us and pursue his profession. We will not change that.”
