What you can do with children in Upper Austria

Leisure is known to be the best time of the day – and we want to fill it with cool excursions and experiences. Here we tell you which activities in Upper Austria are fun for the whole family.

Hunting Fairy Tale Park Hirschalm

We start with a true paradise for excursions with children: The Hirschalm Fairytale Hunting Park awaits you from April to October with more than 50 fairytale and play stations. Action fans can ride the summer toboggan run, the family roller coaster or the bumper boats. Those who prefer to experience nature to the full can take a close look at the “Nature Hunting Knowledge” exhibition or stroll through the scent and aroma garden. The fairytale trail also invites you to get to know fantastic creatures, explore caves and climb in the climbing forest. Various huts and inns ensure that you are also provided with culinary delights. You can also stay overnight in various huts on the Hirschalm all year round.

Aquapulco Piratenwelt

The Aquapulco pirate world in Bad Schallerbach is a hot tip for all water lovers. In the water park, many attractions are waiting to be discovered by you. First and foremost: the 13 meter high pirate ship! But be careful, every half hour a storm comes up and causes sea waves in the wave pool. Then you make your way across the adventure path over suspension and rope bridges until you reach the next viewing platform. A water playground, nine slides and the 5D cinema also ensure an action-packed day at the water park. But a trip to the pirate world is also worthwhile for the little ones. Parents and babies can relax, play and splash around in the separate “Baby Bay” baby spa.

Limestone Alps National Park

In the Kalkalpen National Park, too, there is a year-round program for the whole family. In winter, for example, you can take part in the “Fun and games in the snow” event and spend a winter day in nature. In summer there is a wilderness camp for children, where five days full of adventures await in the national park – with treasure hunts, night activities and evenings around the campfire. And all year round you can go on guided hikes and adventure tours as part of a ranger tour.

children’s forest

If you prefer to take a shorter trip into nature with children, we also have a tip for you: In Zell am Pettenfirst you will find the children’s forest. There are various stations on the hiking trail from the pilgrimage church to the Pettenfirsthütte, which make the trail an experience. They range from peep boxes to a barefoot and jungle path to sound and water worlds. The kids also learn interesting facts about the habitat and the region. You can visit the Children’s Forest all year round, but a trip between April and October is particularly recommended.

In the station building, the working life of the miners is presented to you in the exhibition “Life around mining in disks”. But there is also a lot to discover away from the train station – for example a nature trail or water places. The season at the coal station runs from May to the end of October and is open on weekends and public holidays.

Children’s adventure farm Funtasia

If you have a birthday coming up, you should take a closer look at what the Funtasia children’s adventure farm has to offer. At the adventure farms with childcare in Steinerkirchen and Niederwaldkirchen, the kids can organize parties with various themes and program items. How about, for example, a knight’s festival or a scavenger hunt? In addition, the kids get to know the animals on the farm, in summer they can also swim in the swimming pond in Steinerkirchen, go through the corn maze or along the barefoot path. Of course, this is not only possible as part of a birthday party, but also in other children’s group programs. However, you have to register beforehand.

Hochseilpark Böhmerwald

We have already introduced you to the Ramenai as a great place to stay that you can also rent in winter. But that’s not all: The hut village also includes the Bohemian Forest high rope park, which you can visit from mid-May to the end of October. On eight courses you climb and scramble over bridges, ropes and beams from tree to tree – at a height of up to twelve meters. Children under the age of 14 (or under 130 centimeters tall) may only climb if accompanied by an adult. If you only want to watch as an accompanying person, you do not pay admission.
