Mali, like the whole world, celebrated World Women’s Day on March 8. As better late than never, the association of women desirous of children (AFDE) did not stay on the sidelines of this party which it celebrated in a tense atmosphere, marked par of the tears, emotion and despair, this Saturday at the International Conference Center of Bamako (CICB).

It was in a room full to bursting at the CICB that women who wanted children met to console themselves. But also to launch a heartfelt cry to the highest authorities to take their concerns into account. Story of allowing them to find hope. That of having a child, one day.

For the occasion, several personalities were present. Starting with the representative of the Minister for the Promotion of Women, Children and the Family, the President of the Association of Gynecologists of Mali, the sponsor Dr Ibrahima Kanté, the Godmother Mrs Touré Korotoumou Traoré and several specialists in Infertility care, to name a few.

Much expected from the authorities!

If the Godmother Mrs. Touré Korotoumou Traoré believes that infertility is not inevitable, she insisted on the need to support women who face enormous difficulties in society: stigmatization, marginalization, violence and exclusion or divorce once more.

Following him, Professor Ibrahima Kanté explains that in Mali, the frequency of infertility is estimated at 51% as a reason for external consultation in Gynecology. “The causes of this pathology are multiple and very complex. They can be organic, functional, environmental, psychological and social. And often related to the side effects of certain anti-cancer and traditional drugs etc. “, he added.

Faced with this phenomenon, which requires a lot to be done, he asked the authorities to focus on the training of specialists in the field of infertility, to subsidize treatment, to make drugs available and accessible. . To these proposals, he added the openness and functionality of the Center of Excellence for Medically Assisted Procreation at the CHU du Point G.

Not having children is sad and it is usually the women who take the blame. Faced with sometimes unfounded prejudices, Mrs. Thiéro Aminata Diarra, president of the association of women who want children (AFDE), spoke of the need to support them, because they have suffered a lot, while infertility, which is not not a fact in itself. “It is not easy anywhere in the world to bear or feel what each of us can feel in our flesh, in our soul, in the depths of our being”.

The opportunity was opportune for her to appeal to the authorities for treatment, which is very expensive. “Many of these treatment products are not taken into account by the AMO”, she explained, before inviting husbands to understand that it is not the wish of any woman not to have of children. Welcoming the initiative of the association created in 2018, Pr Youssouf Traoré, representative of SOMAGO reiterated his organization’s support for women wishing to have children.
