The chief forecaster of St. Petersburg Alexander Kolesov in his telegram channels On January 31, he gave a forecast for the week and spoke regarding the peculiarities of the weather in late January and early February. This is usually the coldest time of the year, but not this year.
“Yesterday, January 30th, the standard air temperature in St. Petersburg reached its minimum mark of -5.6 degrees. (according to new calculations for 1991–2020). This is the lowest value of the year for the city, which will last for only one week,” says Kolesov.
In general, over the past decades, the temperature regime in January has undergone significant changes. According to the old norm, formed in 1961-1990, the minimum value these days was minus 8.3 degrees for the Northern capital. “It turns out that over the past 30 years, in late January – early February, the city got warmer by 2.7 grams,” sums up the forecaster. The temperature norm will begin to rise gradually from February 7.
As for the real weather, from tomorrow, that is, from February 1, according to Kolesov’s forecast, “very good weather is expected in St. By the weekend, there will be less precipitation, and the air will be cooler, minus 4-9 degrees — “the background temperature will even drop slightly relative to the norm.”
“We don’t think further, but we follow the development of atmospheric processes,” the St. Petersburg forecaster promises.
