The civil judge of Rincón de los Sauces, Sebastian Villegas, was dismissed from his position yesterday, following the trial jury considered it proven that he had sexually harassed and mistreated a former secretary of the court in the workplace. For Micaela Guzmán Doblas, general assistant secretary of the judicial union (Sejun), this resolution is “remedial”.
In dialogue with RÍO NEGRO RADIO, the leader maintained that the unanimous sentence represents “a historical precedent.” «If we talk regarding five or ten years ago, perhaps this was unthinkable. But today with all the laws we have, with how not supporting some things has become visible, it seems to me that it is progress, “ remarked.
The union intervened as a “friend of the court”, this means that their representatives were heard by the jury before deciding.
The magistrate was not suspended from his functions during the processing of the process. The complainant was transferred to another judicial unit.
Villegas also has a second cause initiated by another official for labor and gender violence. The prosecution had asked that they be unified and prosecuted for the two cases together. However, the jury rejected the request.
This procedure will be suspended, until the sentence that expels Villegas from the Judiciary is final.
