Ehe Government of Ecuador asked its compatriots in Ukraine this Saturday to contact the country embassy in Austria, which acts as a concurrent once morest the Government of Kiev, in the face of the escalation of tensions between the United States and Russia.
The Foreign Ministry of Ecuador, in an official statement, indicated that its respective consular section “has raised a record of more than 400 compatriots living in Ukraine.”
In addition, he said that “he is currently working on the verification of valid passports and visas, with the aim of providing timely assistance to each of them.”
Ecuador recommended its citizens not to travel to Ukraine and called on those who are in that country, and have not yet done so, to contact the embassy in Austria to maintain the necessary communication.
The Foreign Ministry made available a telephone number (+43 676897358700) and an email ([email protected]) so that its compatriots can communicate with the Embassy in Vienna.
The president of United States, Joe Biden, warned this Saturday in a call telefónica with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, that his country and its allies will quickly impose “severe costs” if Russian troops proceed with an invasion of Ukraine.
What’s more, Biden reported that while the US is ready to use diplomatic channels on the situation in Ukraineis “equally prepared” for scenarios other than diplomacy, the White House reported in a statement on Saturday.
On its side, the Kremlin shot back, denouncing that the West’s “hysteria” regarding an impending Russian invasion of Ukraine has reached a fever pitch.
“The escalation around the ‘invasion’ issue was done in a coordinated way. The hysteria has just reached its climax.” said the adviser to the Russian president for International Affairs, Yuri Ushakov, following the telephone conversation of more than an hour between Biden and Putin.
EE.UU. “is artificially inflating the hysteria” around a planned Russian invasion of Ukraine”, opined the Kremlin. This was the first direct conversation between Biden and Putin since last December 30, when they made clear their differences on the Ukraine issue.
The conversation came following the US yesterday asked its citizens to leave Ukrainian territory in the next 24 to 48 hours due to the “clear possibility” that Russia would attack Ukraine.
The United Kingdom, Norway and Denmark also called on their citizens to leave Ukraine while there are still commercial means available to do so, while Spain assured that it has prepared the evacuation device for Spaniards in case it had to be activated.
