The concentration of 100,000 Russian soldiers on the borders with Ukraine, added to the alert promoted by the United States of a possible invasion of the European country before the end of the Winter Olympics (February 20), has generated not only international tensions, but also an impact on the reality of Colombians living in that country. country.
There are 32 people of Colombian nationality registered since last January, when a protocol for assistance, location, characterization and permanent contact in the European country began, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the work of the Colombian embassy in Poland and the Consulate in Warsaw.
According to said portfolio, these dependencies are instructed to provide all the guarantees so that the compatriots – who are mostly in the city of Kiev– can leave the country, in case the situation worsens.
Likewise, President Iván Duque stated during his tour of Europe: “We cannot be talking at this time of war” and assured that “the role that corresponds to Colombia, as a NATO associated country, in any situation, certainly depends on the deliberation that must be had within NATO by the countries that are full members.
