This summer, doctors at the Dmitrov Regional Hospital in the Moscow region removed a giant ovarian cyst the size of a ball – regarding 20 centimeters in diameter – to a 40-year-old woman. How told in the Ministry of Health of the region, for more than three years the woman did not show herself to a gynecologist until acute abdominal pains began – only then did she turn to doctors.
After the operation, the patient was discharged in a satisfactory condition.
According to the deputy chief physician for obstetrics and gynecology of the Dmitrov Regional Hospital, Natalia Mozharovskaya, neglected cases are not uncommon, especially among young patients, and all because of untimely access to medical care.
Why go to the gynecologist if nothing hurts
Indeed, if there are no complaints, nothing worries, why waste time going to a female doctor? According to Olga Malysheva, a gynecologist-endocrinologist at the Federal Research and Clinical Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia, many gynecological diseases, including cancer, do not manifest themselves at first – this can last quite a long time until the disease passes to critical stages. And they are much more difficult to treat.
