What will Claudia Sheinbaum’s investiture be like? Time and details

MEXICO CITY.- On October 1, the change of power will take place in the Chamber of Deputies, which will meet as a general Congress so that Claudia Sheinbaum take possession of the Presidency of the Republic and Andrés Manuel López Obrador officially ends his mandate.

The first president in the history of the country will enter the Lower House through the main entrance, located on Congreso de la Unión Avenue, where she will be received by a reception and courtesy commission, which will be made up of six deputies and six senators.

This same commission will also receive the President López Obrador and will take it to the plenary session before the president-elect arrives. Both will cross a walkway with metal fences, where representatives from approximately 400 national and international media outlets will be present.

Before President López Obrador enters the session hall, an escort will honor him for the last time as Acting President. On the other hand, the president will salute the flag when she arrives, but they will not honor her until she leaves, already invested as national leader.

To receive Sheinbaum Pardo, At the entrance there will be fences of cadets from the Heroic Military College. President López Obrador will enter the meeting room first and then the president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum.

Inside the room there will be 628 legislators, including deputies and senators, more than 900 special guests of the president-elect, including diplomats, religious personalities and civil society.

The governors and invited heads of state will be in the boxes. Although so far the presence of Minister Norma Piña, president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), has not been confirmed, places will be installed for the ministers, on one side of the tribune, and for the cabinet appointed by the elected president.

At 9 a.m. the establishment of positions of the parliamentary groups will begin, for an hour and a half, and at approximately 11 a.m. the inauguration ceremony will begin, which will last around an hour and 40 minutes.

Up on the platform, there will only be President López Obrador, the president of the Board of Directors, Ifigenia Martínez, who will give the Presidential Band to the president-elect so that she can put it on herself with the support of cadets.

Afterwards, Sheinbaum Pardo will deliver her first speech to the nation as President of the Republic. At the end, the National Anthem will be sung and the president will leave via the same route she followed to enter, while President López Obrador will leave the session hall through a wing outside the venue.

During the following days, the security of the Chamber of Deputies will be reinforced, with elements from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City, who will join the 250 personnel surveillance of the Lower House and the National Guard, in order to guarantee the safety of the guests. Special security operations will be carried out, which includes the placement of more fences on the perimeter of the Lower House by the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).

At the moment, the access to the Chamber of Deputies is guarded by elements of the National guard and metal fences, and there is controlled access to the streets surrounding the legislative precinct. Even the delegation from the United States Embassy has taken tours of the San Lázaro facilities to review aspects of the ceremony.
