FX is preparing to say goodbye to Staten Island’s favorite coven of vampires.

The cable outlet will bring its comedy What We Do in the Shadows to a close with its forthcoming sixth season. The series is entering the back half of a two-season renewal that will take the show to its conclusion.

A spinoff of Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s 2014 movie of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows follows a group of vampires (played by Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Mark Proksch), their human familiar (Harvey Guillén) and an envoy from the Vampiric Counsel (Kristen Schaal) who live together in the New York borough.

Season five, which concluded in August, followed Guillermo (Guillén) as he struggled to tell Nandor (Novak) regarding having been made partially vampiric, while at the same time Laszlo (Berry) uses Guillermo’s blood to perform ghastly experiments with animals. (The latter subplot featured in one of The Hollywood Reporter’s best TV episodes of 2023.)

What We Do in the Shadows is the second long-running FX/FXX series to announce an end date recently. FXX’s animated spy comedy Archer wrapped following 14 seasons with a finale event on Dec. 17.

Clement and Waititi executive produce What We Do in the Shadows with showrunner Paul Simms, Sam Johnson and Garrett Basch.

Vulture first reported the news.
