The Samsung Galaxy Tab S range may not be as dominant as the smartphone, but if you’re looking for a high-end tablet that isn’t an iPad, it’s a great alternative.
Going by the reports and rumors about it, its latest updated version might be out soon. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Galaxy Tab S9.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 be released?
At the time of writing, Samsung has given no official information about its future new tablet. We will therefore have to rely on previous models to imagine when it will debut.
Here are the dates on which previous versions were revealed:
- Samsung Galaxy S8 – February 2022
- Samsung Galaxy S7 – August 2020
- Samsung Galaxy S6 – August 2019
The S8 range has somewhat deviated from the rule by advancing the traditional summer release to February. With that month now over, we will not see a repeat in 2023.
As we have already seen rumors about some technical aspects of the Tab S9, it still seems that Samsung intends to release the next generation soon, so we expect a return of the period of July Augustlikely launching alongside the foldable Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5.
As for which models to expect, we’re a bit unsure. Last year’s lineup included standard, Plus and Ultra models, and we suspect it will be the same this year. But SamMobile has also found evidence pointing to the presence of two separate cheaper models, possibly a Tab S9 FE and a Tab S9 Lite.
If so, it’s unclear whether they’ll launch alongside the mainline models, or later in the year, Samsung’s usual approach with its FE and Lite options.
What price for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9?
Again, Samsung has yet to confirm pricing for the new tablet, so a look back should give us some clues. Here are the launch prices of its latest models:
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 – from €879
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus – from €1,149
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra – from €1,379
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE – from €649
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 – from €699
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus – from €1,029
We can expect the Galaxy Tab S9 lineup to be priced around the same as the S8, though keeping in mind that a slight price increase could be expected.
What will be new in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9?
In April, famed leaker OnLeaks collected CAD renders of what they say is the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus:
OnLeaks / WolfofTablet
With this remarkably complete render, OnLeaks lets us imagine that the Plus version of the Tab S9 would have a 12.4-inch screen, dimensions of 285.4 x 185.4 x 5.64 mm, four speakers and two cameras. in back.
We’re still waiting to see renders or detailed dimensions for the other models (though prolific leaker Ice Universe tweeted that the Ultra will have the same dimensions as 2022), but it’s a safe bet they’ll show up online one day. day or another.
The other physical detail we think we know is that the Tab S9 series as a whole will include at least an IP67 rating, which means the tablets should be dust-proof and survive submersion to a depth 1 meter for 30 minutes, Ice thinks the Ultra could have the even stricter IP68 certification. Even Apple hasn’t committed to providing an IP rating for its iPad models, which, if true, could be a blow for Samsung.
As for the hardware, it is widely believed that the three main models of the Tab S9 line will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, this is the customized version of the flagship processor appeared in the Galaxy S23 series, with a very slight overclock compared to the normal edition.
We now have proof of this in the Geekbench listings for the three models featuring the overclocked 8 Gen 2 chip, paired with 8-12GB of RAM. Ice Universe reported that the Ultra model could go up to 16GB of RAM, and a another tweet reports three Ultra options: 8+128GB, 12+256GB, and 16+512GB.
As for the FE/Lite models mentioned above, they have also appeared on Geekbench, but interestingly they seem to work with Exynos 1380, 6GB and 8GB RAM respectively. The 1380 is one of Samsung’s processors, the one used in its recent Galaxy A54, where it proved to be surprisingly powerful.
Thanks to Ice, we have additional information for the Ultra, but it basically matches the 2022 model: a 14.6-inch 2960 x 1848 display, 11,200mAh battery and 45W charging. It will be 10g heavier, with 737g in total, but it looks very similar.
The standard model should at least get a slightly larger battery, with GalaxyClub reporting that it will use a cell rated at 8160mAh, which is 400mAh more than its predecessor.
Finally, and perhaps less interestingly, the updated S Pen stylus has been certified by the FCC. The listing doesn’t reveal any pen hardware updates, but does give the impression that the launch of the tablets isn’t far off.
