What to do if your smartphone overheats?

With the return of good weather, heavy use of your smartphone can quickly cause the device to overheat.

Often due to excessive exposure to the sun or abnormally high battery activity, overheating is never harmless and can damage, in the more or less long term, several components of the device, whether it is the battery, the processor or even the screen. It is therefore necessary to have the right reflexes in the event of a heat stroke.

In general, it is essential to avoid excessive exposure of the mobile device to the sun. To quickly cool your phone if it starts to burn your fingers, you should place it in a cool place, at least in the shade, put it in airplane mode and temporarily remove its shell.

On a daily basis, at the slightest overheating, you must always take care to temporarily deactivate WiFi, Bluetooth or even GPS, all these connections consuming a lot of battery. In case of doubt, a simple restart of the device is often enough to cool it down properly.

Finally, if the phone is overheating regularly, then it is better to use the battery saver. On Android, you have to go to Settings then Battery and choose an economical power management mode. On iOS, you have to go and select the Energy saving mode in the Battery settings.

On the other hand, and this is also valid for a good general maintenance of your phone, you must ensure that you regularly update your operating system and its applications. A simple bug can indeed make an application very energy-consuming, which an update will correct.

Finally, overheating can also be due to the presence on your phone of a virus, malware or even malicious cryptocurrency mining software. You should then consider using an antivirus and uninstalling and then removing all suspicious applications.
