The city of General Roca elected municipal authorities. This year it had 11 lists, but the mayoral candidates were six. What to do if you were not in the city to go vote? What procedure do you have to present if you did not have an authorized DNI to cast the vote? RÍO NEGRO RADIO interviewed Mariela Pagano, president of the Electoral Board of Roca, who explained the step by step for those who did not cast their vote.
Pagano assured that the reasons why citizens are not going to vote can be several and the way to solve it is particular in each case. He detailed the different situations and how to solve it:
Theft or loss:
If the person who should vote lost their ID or it was stolen, You should go to the nearest police station to your home and make the presentation. The police will give you a certificate to be able, later, to justify the absence of vote.
Disease:
If the neighbor suffers from an illness that prevents him or her from going to vote, must justify the vote with a certificate from a health professional in which he assures that the patient might not approach to vote.
Not being in the city:
In order for the non-casting of a vote to be justified, if you are not in Roca, you must be at more than 500 kilometers. In the place where you are, you must go to a police station and request the certificate of non-voting. However, Pagano assured: “we know from previous experiences that the police of another province do not always issue these certificates in municipal elections. In these cases, we tell the neighbors that they have a purchase in their name on that day in order to justify their non-vote. Or the tickets that can show the day that it was and that it returned«.
To justify the absence of vote there are up to 60 days following the electionno. It can be done in a way personnel at the offices of the Electoral Board of Roca or through an email that will be enabled on the municipality’s website from Tuesday, March 14.
Finally, he explained that those who do not vote and do not present the justification for their absence become offenders and will receive a financial fine.
