EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been updated to reflect the correct location of the crash. The Wilmington Police Department initially provided the incorrect street.
A 38-year-old man died Monday morning following being hit by a DART bus in Wilmington’s West Center City, police said.
Wilmington police were called to the 100 block of North Monroe St. just following 5:45 a.m. for reports of the crash. On scene, officers found the man badly hurt.
In a short news release, police said the man died from his injuries. It’s not clear whether he was taken to the hospital or died on scene, or where he was located when he was hit by the bus.
The department also didn’t say who hit the man, though the Delaware Department of Transportation later confirmed that a bus had hit the man. The Wilmington news release did not say whether the driver remained on scene following the crash or what caused the wreck.
DelDOT said it is cooperating with police. Wilmington Police Department spokesman David Karas said the agency “hope(s) to be able to issue an update (Tuesday) with more details.”
