What there is to discover in the Heimathaus Braunau

2023-05-23 21:55:00

The Heimathaus Braunau starts into the new season, until the end of September a guided tour is offered from Tuesday to Saturday at 1.30 p.m. In addition to exploration and information on the history and special features of the house, special tours of the 14th-century bell foundry are also offered.

The in-house bell foundry workshop from 1385 is the oldest originally preserved in the German-speaking world, and the smoke kitchen with its mighty chimney has also remained the same since it was built.

“Innviertler Ruffling Tools”

Braunau’s home is home to a wealth of historical exhibits, the collection extends over three floors. In the back building there is a rural department that was designed around 1910 by the museum founder and partly reveals the unusual: A collection of “original Innviertler tussle tools” such as so-called ox pizzles, batons, crickets and other curious instruments.

The Donauschwaben Heimatstube is also part of the Heimathaus. It is a memorial room set up in 1994 for those Danube Swabians who, after a painful escape, found a new home in the Braunau district and erected a monument to their old homeland.

Guided tours of the Donauschwaben Heimatstube are available after registering with Franz Kinder on 0664/4600106.
