The Moon is the only natural satellite of the Earth and, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), this satellite has an equatorial diameter of 3,474 square kilometers and is the fifth largest satellite in the Solar System.

For decades, this satellite has been studied and is known to travel around the Earth in an oval orbit at 3,680 kilometers per hour.

Likewise, there are many myths that have been created about the Moon and one of the most frequently asked questions is the temperature on its surface. NASA has indicated that, since this satellite does not have an atmosphere that can mitigate or moderate the sun’s rays, it is subjected to extreme temperatures at different times of the day.

Since the temperatures of the Moon are so varied and dangerous, it is impossible for any form of life to live there. It is known that one day on the Moon corresponds to 29 Earth days, of which half of the time are day and the other half are night.

NASA has also indicated that the temperatures that may occur vary between -299.2 degrees Fahrenheit (-184 degrees Celsius) during the night and 417.2 degrees Fahrenheit (214 degrees Celsius) during the day. These temperatures apply to the entire surface of the Moon, except at the poles, where there is a constant temperature of -140.8 degrees Fahrenheit (-96 degrees Celsius), the above according to NASA reports.

In addition, the slow rotation of the satellite also influences the proper distribution of heat on its surface. As stated above, for decades different organizations have studied the Moon and have recorded temperatures of minus -418 degrees Fahrenheit (-250 degrees Celsius).

Likewise, for some time now, NASA has noticed that the size of the Moon is gradually reducing, causing some wrinkles and tremors on its surface.

Thanks to measurements captured by NASA’s ‘Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter’ space probe launched in 2009, astronomers have been able to map its structure since then.
