What Sonko told Urban Security investigators

Ousmane Sonko refused to answer questions from the police officers of the Urban Security of Dakar, but he made a statement by summoning his state of contumax.

Arrested on July 28 at 4:30 p.m. at his home in the Cité Keur Gorgui by a detachment of the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (Gign), Ousmane Sonko was interviewed by the Urban Security police on two occasions.

Upon his arrival on Friday, he was heard on the offenses of theft and assault and theft with violence., reports L’Obs. Faced with questions from investigators, Ousmane Sonko refused to answer. But, he just made a statement on the record.

“I was sentenced by the First Criminal Chamber of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Dakar in absentia on 1is June 2023 to two years in prison for youth corruption. I was arrested on July 28 at my home by the national gendarmerie at 4:30 p.m. I expressly declare that I do not acquiesce in this condemnation. The pain is annihilated,” says Ousmane Sonko.

This is the only statement contained in the minutes of Ousmane Sonko’s hearing before the Urban Security which will be presented to the Dean of the investigating judges, Maham Diallo, today Monday.

It should be noted that the day following his arrest, on Saturday, he was also heard by the police on the charges that the public prosecutor of Dakar had announced during his press conference. But the leader of Pastef/Les Patriotes adopted the same attitude by remaining silent.

Clearly, Ousmane Sonko did not respond to any of the three points of the police interrogation, namely the theft, the call for insurrection and the seven (7) charges brought by the Dakar Public Prosecutor’s Office (appeal insurrection, association of criminals, attack on the security of the State, association of criminals in connection with a terrorist enterprise, conspiracy once morest the authority of the State, acts and maneuvers to compromise public security and theft).

The eleven (11) lawyers of Ousmane Sonko, namely Mes Ciré Clédor Ly, Ousseynou Fall, Youssoupha Camara, Brice Sylver, Bamba Cissé, Demba Ciré Bathily, Maguette Sène, Cheikh Khoureyssi Bâ, Abdy Nar Ndiaye, Amadou Sow and Djiby Diagne were present at the interrogation.
