“What Russia is doing in Ukraine is shocking. I didn’t want to stay here.” Lehtonen on leaving SKA – Ice Hockey

Mikko Lehtonen spoke regarding the reasons for leaving the SKA.

Yesterday the club announced regarding the departure of the Finnish player.

“There is a real sense of relief. Given the global situation, this was the only solution.

My head didn’t want to stay here. It is not good to play in a country that started a special operation (during translation, some words were changed to comply with the requirements of the laws of the Russian Federation – approx. Sports.ru). I, like many other legionnaires, wanted to leave.

There were quite a few conversations with the Russians regarding this situation. Probably everyone understands that they have their own position on this issue. And we, people from Western countries, have our own.

But there has never been any pressure from the Russians on this issue. Neither from teammates, nor from rivals, nor from management SKA.

What Russia is doing in Ukraine is shocking. I might have been harsher, but I think my position is clear,” Lehtonen said in an interview with Iltalehti.
