What really happened at Radviliškis school? The teacher is accused of harassing girls

On February 14, the scandal of possible harassment was described in Vincos Kudirka’s high school Radviliškis news.

According to the newspaper, rumors regarding one employee possibly harassing the girls began to spread among the schoolchildren last fall: it was said that the man was touching the girls’ legs and other parts of the body, secretly filming.

According to a local publication, the parents of one of the girls reported such behavior to the then principal of the school, Rasa Dagiena, but she did not react to such information, nor did she take any action.

Finally, Radviliškis district mayor Kazimieras Račkauskis found out regarding it.

Law enforcement is investigating the situation

He 15min confirmed Thursday following passing on the information to law enforcement regarding two weeks ago.

“I gave the information I had to the prosecutor’s office and now they are clarifying (…) I received information that the parents may have contacted the principal and more than once that the girls were being harassed, but no action was taken,” said the local mayor.

“And only when the new manager came, that issue was immediately resolved,” he added.

According to him, the teacher who allegedly harassed the girls was fired.

“When I learned that information, that teacher was fired and the information was passed on to the services,” said K. Račkauskis.

According to the mayor of Radviliškis, surveys are currently being conducted – officials are clarifying the situation.

The pre-trial investigation has not been started

Gailutė Smagriūnienė, representative of the Šiauliai County Police 15min said that the police refused to open a preliminary investigation.

“We checked and a decision was made not to start a pre-trial investigation in the absence of complaints from the victims,” ​​said a local police spokeswoman.

According to her, the teacher was dismissed from his duties at his own request, and the police were investigating the circumstances.

The decision not to start a pre-trial investigation was made on February 13.

Principal: The teacher denied the allegations

Ina Bajarauskaitė, who temporarily heads Vincos Kudirka’s pro-gymnasium, told more regarding what happened at the school.

“The girls may have suspected the teacher of misbehaving, violating their space,” – 15min spoke I. Bajarauskaitė, who added that she did not want to go into details.

She was appointed as the interim head of the school by the mayor’s decree in early January, and soon following she said she received information regarding possible inappropriate behavior of the teacher.

“We had a conversation with that teacher at the end of January, as soon as I received possible information regarding those actions. We talked and the teacher made up his own mind – he expressed his desire to quit his job. I fulfilled his request”, said the school director.

The teacher, who is in his 70s and worked as a careers specialist and had a pottery club, did not disclose the reason for his resignation, but previously denied all allegations of possible harassment, she said.

According to I.Bajarauskaitė, the teacher worked with students in grades 5-8 and had three lessons a week in the pottery circle.
