Ah, Rachel Allen! The culinary queen from Cork who manages to put a uniquely charming twist on what most of us call "meals." I mean, she’s out here tackling cross-training skipping sessions before breakfast—skipping! Not skipping lunch, breakfast! Do you know how difficult that is? You try skipping after a pint of Guinness; you’ll be skipping straight into the emergency room.
Breakfast: The Mighty Omelette Or Not?
So, we start the day with Rachel, who has a cup of tea and then goes swimming at the crack of dawn—7:40 am! That makes my 10 am struggle for coffee seem like a cozy victory. And what does she have post-workout? An omelette! Well, a potential omelette, anyway. It’s like “the breakfast of champions” served by a woman who considers chocolate a vegetable as long as it’s dark chocolate. She does sip on warm water with lemon too, but other than that: tea, swim, and skipping!
Lunchtime Drama – The Lunch that Isn’t
As for lunch, Rachel keeps it sporty but sensible. She talks about potentially having another omelette, only for it to vanish into the ether as she daydreams about all the delicious dishes being whipped up at the cookery school. "Salads with a bit of meat and fish," she says confidently. Love that she has the confidence to toss in "a bit of meat" as if that’s a precise measurement, mixing health consciousness with an air of "I really love my protein!"
Dinner Delight – Raclettes and Romance
Now we move onto dinner, where Rachel gets enthusiastic and announces, “Tonight we are having Raclettes!” If you’re unfamiliar, just imagine a glorious cheese explosion with potatoes. This is the kind of dinner that makes you want to become a cheese monger. Seriously, have you seen her pulse quicken at the thought of melted cheese swirling about? It’s like watching someone slowly realize they’ve won the lottery.
Treat Yourself, Darling!
And what’s a day in Rachel’s culinary life without a cheeky treat? A bag of truffle and sea salt crisps paired with a solid Gin and Tonic. Come on now, folks. This is the type of balance that even a nutritionist would smile at, holding their clipboard and mental notes gently before tossing them out the window in pure jealousy. And yes, she enjoys a pint of Guinness too! Can she adopt me? I’d like to live in her world—where the balance of life includes carbs, protein, and a delightful drink concoction that even Bacchus would endorse.
Healthy Choices – Who Can Relate?
But let’s get real; Rachel is with us on the struggle bus: sometimes she makes “less good choices.” Newsflash: I think we’ve all been there after a long day! "Should practice what I preach more," she says. I mean, she’s a chef, so the pressure is on! But honestly, Rachel, we are just trying to get through Monday without crying into a tub of ice cream. And let’s not throw hazelnuts into the mix because after dinner I’m not sure that will help—unless they come coated in chocolate.
In summary, Rachel Allen’s culinary day is like a delightful journey through food and personality. She’s active, balanced, and ready to tackle any dinner challenge that comes her way—especially if it involves cheese. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to locate that pack of truffle crisps hiding in my pantry. I could do with a sprinkle of Rachel’s culinary magic in my life!
Rachel Allen has established herself as a culinary authority through her extensive collection of cookbooks, engaging television cookery shows, and her acclaimed cookery school, demonstrating an impressive expertise in preparing delicious meals.
Just moments after returning from a refreshing morning at the beach, Rachel was bursting with energy and enthusiasm for our conversation. Despite an intense workout session, her cheerful demeanor shone through.
Breakfast – where tea is a must!
During our chat just after 11am, Rachel revealed, ‘I haven’t eaten anything yet!’ She assured us that this was not due to a restrictive diet.
She candidly explained to EVOKE: ‘I just went to a cross training, skipping class. I don’t eat before something like that. But I’m good and hungry now. I might have an omelette.’
Instead, she has been working off a pretty hefty liquid diet. ‘I had a cup of tea first thing this morning and then I went for my swim at 7:40.’
‘I brought a coffee with hot milk in my flask with me so I had that. I’ve had about a pint or two of warm water with lemon. Then I headed to skipping,’ she tells us.
Her home isn’t far from the beach in Cork, allowing her to enjoy the lovely surroundings, as she shared, ‘I had a lovely chat with my good friend, Helen at the beach this morning after a swim. It’s the little things.’
Lunchtime
Now that she’s back home, she admits: ‘I might have an omelette or I might wait for lunch. But I’ll have an early lunch.’
‘If I’m working at the cookery school, I usually have a big lunch because there are so many delicious things being cooked! But it’s always salads; I try to have lots of vegetables with a bit of meat and fish.’
Dinner
As for dinner, she is clearly very excited to reveal, ‘tonight we are having Raclettes!’ This is a traditional Swiss dish made with cheese, potatoes, vegetables, and meat, which promises to be a delightful end to the day.
Treats
Rachel’s delightful approach to treats showcases her belief in balance. ‘Life is all about balance. For me, I love a bag of truffle and sea salt crisps with a good, strong Gin and Tonic. I love a pint of Guinness too,’ Rachel stated, sharing a glimpse into her palate.
Trying to be healthy
Rachel, like many, often grapples with maintaining a healthy diet amidst her busy schedule. ‘If I’m really tired, I make less good choices food wise. I should practise what I preach more, but I generally do [eat nourishing foods]– I eat a lot of hazelnuts as they have plenty of health benefits.’
Of course, I eat and cook with a lot of vegetables too and am conscious of eating healthily.

*Interviewer:* Rachel, it’s great to have you with us today! Your mornings sound incredibly active—swimming and a cross-training skipping session before breakfast! How do you stay motivated to start your day off like this?
*Rachel Allen:* Thank you! Honestly, it’s all about establishing a good routine. I swim at 7:40 am, and I find that getting my body moving helps set a positive tone for the day. Plus, it makes me really hungry—so I can justify a hearty breakfast afterward!
*Interviewer:* Speaking of breakfast, you mentioned you often have an omelette. Is that your go-to meal?
*Rachel Allen:* Absolutely! Well, it’s more like a potential omelette. I have a soft spot for it because I like to mix it up. Sometimes it’s just eggs, but I also love adding in a few veggies and a bit of cheese. And, let’s be real, I consider dark chocolate a vegetable too!
*Interviewer:* That’s a unique perspective on chocolate! Now, what happens when lunch rolls around? You mentioned it can sometimes disappear in thought.
*Rachel Allen:* (Laughs) Yes, my lunch can be quite uneventful. I often find myself dreaming about what’s being cooked at my school instead of actually making something for myself. I do enjoy salads with some meat or fish, though—just a bit, you know? It’s all about balance!
*Interviewer:* And dinner sounds like quite the treat with your choice of Raclette! What’s the appeal of that dish for you?

*Interviewer:* You seem to balance health and indulgence beautifully. You also mentioned a favorite treat of truffle crisps paired with gin and tonic. How do you maintain that balance?
*Rachel Allen:* It’s all about enjoying life! Food should be satisfying and fun. I think a little indulgence alongside healthy choices makes for a well-rounded diet. And let’s be honest, everyone needs a little something special after a long day!
*Interviewer:* you’re so relatable with your admission of sometimes making “less good choices.” How do you cope with that pressure when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle?
*Rachel Allen:* (Smiling) We’re all human, right? I always remind myself that it’s okay to indulge sometimes. I might not always practice what I preach, but I think it’s important to be kind to ourselves. We all have our moments—especially when ice cream is involved!

*Rachel Allen:* Thank you for having me! Remember, life is too short not to enjoy good food and drink. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to track down those truffle crisps!
