Products in the Union were some of the most natural and delicious in the world, so there were almost always queues in stores. Life.ru tells you which USSR products were extremely popular, but have now completely disappeared.
1. White “brick” bread.
This product was especially popular in the USSR due to its delicate taste and unrealistic size. The fact is that bread was not then cut into small pieces before being sold to the buyer. Therefore, one product weighed a whole kilogram.
Bricks of bread might be bought in different varieties: white, gray and even rye. Now, of course, stores also sell similar shaped types of bread. But this is nothing more than a cheap fake: the taste is not at all the same, and the weight is only a few hundred grams, and not one kilogram, as before.
2. Tallinn chewing gum.
Soviet products constituted serious competition for Western goods, although the latter were not represented in the USSR. So, in stores you might find several chewing gums from a number of manufacturers. The price was miserable – regarding 15 kopecks apiece.
Unlike Western chewing gum, domestic ones were incredibly aromatic. The taste lasted for several hours in a row. Moreover, the product was natural. You can’t find Soviet chewing gum now. Those sold in stores lose their taste within 15 minutes following entering the mouth.
3. Sour cream “Amateur”
Despite the shortage, even sour cream and spread might be found in the USSR. This Soviet product was sold in briquettes. It was not liquid, but a little solid.
The Lyubitelskaya sour cream might be cut off with a knife and then applied to the bread. It was enough just to sprinkle the “spread” with sugar – and you got a good healthy and healthy snack. Now there is no Soviet sour cream, and the product is sold in liquid form.
4. Processed cheese in tubes.
Despite the Soviet shortage, residents of the country might buy another tasty delicacy almost everywhere – processed cheese in tubes. Visually, the packaging was the same as that of toothpaste. The taste was unique! Nowadays they don’t make such processed cheeses anymore.
5. Kvass in a barrel.
Kvass was one of the most delicious products of the USSR. In the Union it was produced according to a special formula that no one at home might replicate. Thanks to the drink, residents of the country might cool down on a hot summer day while enjoying the excellent taste. The cost of kvass was small – only six kopecks.
6. Soviet ice cream.
Even during the Soviet shortage, the country’s residents were provided with delicious ice cream. The most popular product was the Soviet era ice cream. Now stores are trying to sell similar sweets, supposedly made according to Soviet recipes, but they don’t taste the same. He was much better before!
