The Cuban government says that the basic food basket remains a priority, although it says it will not be able to guarantee all products.
Thus it transcends in a article from the official newspaper Granma, which states that the Ministry of the Food Industry (Minal) “maintains among its priorities, for the summer, the support for the standardized family basket.”
In this regard, the General Director of Industrial Policy at Minal, Anayra Cabrera Martínez, reported that “they are working to secure the majority of products during the month of July.”
However, he admitted that there are products “that cannot be guaranteed due to the lack of raw materials.” This is the case of canned meat, which will be produced “only to cover the month of August,” the text states.
He added that this month “a policy is being implemented to distribute chicken to children and pregnant women,” but “so far, there is no inventory to cover the entire country.”
The official has assured that, in the case of other products, “their distribution is guaranteed.”

For her part, the head of Sales for the Food Group, Idalmi Martínez Pérez, clarified that her entity will provide a separate module for children with low weight and height from the products in the family basket.
This module will consist of “one kilogram of pasta, one kilogram of sweet biscuits, four packets of sherbet and one litre of syrup.”
According to the information provided, all these products have already been produced and are being distributed by the Wholesale Food Company.
Likewise, the Sales Director of the Agrifood Group, Claudia Sardiña Cuscó, stated that “the distribution of milk for children is guaranteed until July 30.” And also that “actions are being carried out to ensure continuity during August.”
According to her, this group will also provide differentiated products to children with low weight and height.
