  • Several nations changed their position following the Copa America and the Euro Cup

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) updated the ranking of the national teams on Thursday, July 18, four days following the end of the Copa América and the Euro Cup 2024. After the tournaments, the Vinotinto rose 15 positions and occupies the 37th place in the ranking.

This is the biggest rise in the rankings for a team during this FIFA window. La Vinotinto gained points in the ranking following reaching the quarter-finals of the Copa América.

In the previous update on June 20, the Vinotinto was ranked 54th, two places lower than in the February 2024 update. At that time, the team did not participate in friendly games by decision of coach Fernando “Bocha” Batista.

The management of the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) decided to skip the friendlies in order to start training and concentration early for the 2024 Copa América.

Brazil was in fourth place, followed by England, Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain, Croatia and Italy to complete the top 10. FIFA clarified that in this update there are no new teams within the qualifying zone for the 2026 World Cup in North America.

One of the South American teams that rose in the ranking was Colombia, which moved from 14th to 12th position, gradually getting closer to the best in world football. The Ecuadorian team also moved up one position and is now 30th in the ranking.

However, Liberia had the biggest rise in positions, which went from 152nd to 142nd place, following obtaining 37.47 points. On the other hand, Equatorial Guinea had the biggest drop, with 10 positions less.

La Vinotinto achieved a perfect score in the group stage of the competition for the first time in its history. The team faced Ecuador and won with a 2-1 in its debut at the 2024 Copa América on June 22, which took place at Levi’s Stadium in California, United States.
