American President Joe Biden reiterates that an Israeli ground offensive in Rafah would be “a mistake”. In the phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the first conversation since February 15, Biden said he was “deeply concerned” regarding this eventuality. The national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, reported this in a press conference. Biden also invited an Israeli delegation to the United States to discuss the situation, earning Netanyahu’s agreement. According to the Times of Israel, the two discussed “the latest developments in Israel and Gaza, including the situation in Rafah and efforts to increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza,” the White House says, adding that a reading of the appeal will be published soon. This was their twentieth call since the outbreak of war on 7 October. Last week, Congress’s most senior Democrat, Senator Chuck Schumer, called for early elections in Israel to replace Netanyahu, who he branded an obstacle to peace along with Hamas, the Israeli far right and the president of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas. Biden welcomed the speech and said many Americans think like Schumer, even though the White House has made clear that the election is a matter for the Israeli people to decide.
At the end of the phone call with the American President, Joe Biden, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu published a video where he stated that the two leaders discussed «Israel’s commitment to achieving all the objectives of the war: the elimination of Hamas, the release of all our hostages and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel.” The Times of Israel reports it. Netanyahu stressed that Israel will provide Gazans with “the humanitarian aid needed to help achieve these goals.”
