February 25 in the church calendar – the day of memory of Saint Tarasius, Archbishop of Constantinople. Even as a child, he received a good education, because he was born into a pious patrician family. At first, he worked as a scribe and adviser at the court of Emperor Konstantin Bagryanorodny. In that period, the heresy regarding iconoclasm was very popular, and Bishop Pavlo, who was sitting on the throne at that time, might not overcome it. Paul pointed to Tarasius as his successor when the emperor and his mother, Tsarina Irina, came to him. Therefore, in 784, Tarasius became a bishop. He did many good deeds, but he left because he did not want to break the emperor’s marriage with Maria. He died in 806.
