It’s always said: “Music makes the world go round”… Whether it’s a happy tune to help brighten your day, a sad tune to help you through tough times, or a love song to dedicate to the person you care regarding most, music is often the soundtrack to our lives.
One must ask: What song is considered the happiest song on earth according to science?
A preliminary study revealed that Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” was the happiest song in the world.
But following the formula used to determine the happiest song has been revised, there is now a new contender, although “Don’t Stop Me Now” still comes in second on the list.
The happiest song in the world right now, according to researcher Jacob Goleg, who came up with the formula used to choose the happiest song, is “Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra.
How is the happiest song in the world determined?
So, how was the happiest song in the world determined? Golig came up with a formula by studying 126 songs from a 50-year period.
When coming up with the formula, he also surveyed over 2,000 people to find out which songs made them happiest.
According to Golig’s research, he discovered that “we generally like songs that have a tempo that deviates from the average pop song tempo, that are in a major key, and that are a little more complex than three-chord songs, unless the song is in a major key.”
What it boils down to is that happy songs tend to be in the 150 beats per minute (BPM) range, or higher, compared to 118 BPM for an average pop song.
In the example of “Don’t Stop Me Now,” the song is in the 156 bpm range and is also in the key of F Major, making it a very happy song.
